Take Your Thoughts Captive

2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

I would say, if I were being completely honest, that I am having to take thoughts captive nearly every 5 minutes of every day. Would you agree with that? Men, especially have wildly tempting thoughts, and if you aren’t willing to make the intentional choice to take those thoughts captive you can quickly find yourself in a sinful situation that should have been avoided.

This is a message of encouragement! Through the power of the Holy Spirit, take your thoughts captive!

Pray from a Place of Authority

Today’s message is a collaboration of the info I took from 2 different resources.

“Breakthrough begins when you stop being impressed by the size of your problem” -Bill Johnson

What issue (s) are you facing in life that seem insurmountable to overcome? Is it relational, financial, health related, physical, mental?

  1. There is always a solution (1 Corinthians 10:13) – The moment you speak this into a situation, there will be a spiritual shift.
  2. I will always know what to do (James 1:5-8) – The fear of not knowing what to do is a greater problem than not knowing what to do.
  3. I will always succeed at everything I do (Philippians 4:11-13) – God’s plan is to make us successful on the inside when we don’t appear successful on the outside. This is the pathway to influence and leadership. Success is a state of being, not a goal to be attained.
  4. I will always have the resources I need to do what needs to be done (Philippians 4:19) – God’s provision is more than financial. He meets our needs abundantly in our emotions, protection, relationships, ideas, and more.
  5. My past is always turned to good (Romans 8:28) – As we release our faith into this promise, God has the incredible ability to make every negative in our lives turn to a positive.

We’re Here to Serve

Matthew 20:26-28
26 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

We hosted a basketball team camp these past couple of days and with basketball, things can happen.

We had a situation where an individual needed to be looked at by a medical professional. He wouldn’t accept payment from the family, he just took a look like the player was an everyday patient.

We are here to serve others. This doctor served an individual that he may never lay eyes on again. It was a great example of a person using their gifts to serve others.

A great example for all. I hope it’s been a great day in the trenches. I hope you’ve been exceptional at being you.

For God alone my soul waits – God is a refuge

I am still trying to wrestle with this Psalm as I have pondered what it means for my soul to wait in silence.

Psalm 62 ESV (https://www.esv.org/Psalm+62/)

1 For God alone ymy soul zwaits in silence; from him comes my salvation.

 aHe alone is my rock and my salvation, my bfortress; cI shall not be greatly shaken.

 How long will all of you attack a man to batter him, like da leaning wall, a tottering fence?

 They only plan to thrust him down from his ehigh position. They take pleasure in falsehood.

fThey bless with their mouths, but inwardly they curse. Selah

 For God alone, O ymy soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.

 aHe only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken.

 On God rests my gsalvation and my glory; my mighty rock, hmy refuge is God.

 iTrust in him at all times, O people; jpour out your heart before him;

God is ha refuge for us. Selah

 kThose of low estate are but a breath; those of high estate lare a delusion;

in the balances they go up; kthey are together lighter than a breath.

10  Put no trust in extortion; mset no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them.

11  oOnce God has spoken; otwice have I heard this: that ppower belongs to God,

12  and that to you, O Lord, qbelongs steadfast love. For you will rrender to a man

according to his work.

Proverbs 3 (ESV)

Trust in the LORD with All Your Heart

1 My son, do not forget my teaching,

but let your heart keep my commandments,

2 for length of days and years of life

and peace they will add to you.

3 Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you;

bind them around your neck;

write them on the tablet of your heart.

4 So you will find favor and good success[fn]

in the sight of God and man.

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart,

and do not lean on your own understanding.

6 In all your ways acknowledge him,

and he will make straight your paths.

7 Be not wise in your own eyes;

fear the LORD, and turn away from evil.

8 It will be healing to your flesh[fn]

and refreshment[fn] to your bones.

9 Honor the LORD with your wealth

and with the firstfruits of all your produce;

10 then your barns will be filled with plenty,

and your vats will be bursting with wine.

11 My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline

or be weary of his reproof,

12 for the LORD reproves him whom he loves,

as a father the son in whom he delights.

Let the Holy Spirit Make Us Bold

Acts 4:8-10
8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people! 9 If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed, 10 then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed.

Pastors, it is another Sunday and another great opportunity to spread the word. Again, we lift you up in prayer for all of times you have helped us through our difficult times.

Two things to take away from the scripture above; 1) we can be emboldened by the Holy Spirit even today, 2) give the credit to Jesus.

When we give credit to the Lord and when we ask for our words to be guided, thing will go better than if we try to do it all ourselves. Peter had just healed a man and yet he says it wasn’t my doing. This was completed through the person that you decided to crucify.

Pretty strong stance there. Let the Holy Spirit give us the strength we need when we’re in situations that are difficult.

Make it a great week in the trenches. Be exceptional at being you.

The More I Love My Dog

Galatians 5:14
14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Ephesians 4:32
32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

I was speaking to a gentleman the other day who is going through a transition in life and I asked him how it was going.

He asked me if I’d ever heard the saying, “The more I deal with people, the more I love my dog?”

I had not heard that, but I could see the origin of the saying.

There is a lot to unravel here. First, let’s not be one of the people he’s referring to. Let’s be upstanding people, let’s keep our word. Let’s not be deceitful or anything of that nature.

On the other side of the equation, let’s be quick to love and understand. Let’s be slow to anger. We’re supposed to forgive the way we were forgiven. Let’s be kind and compassionate.

I feel like if we all worked on getting better at both of those scriptures, we’d make the world a better place.

Make it a great day in the trenches. Be exceptional at being you.

Yancey

The Great Exchange

HERE IS THE “GREAT EXCHANGE” OF WHAT JESUS DID FOR US:

  • Punished … that we might be forgiven (Isaiah 53:3-5).
  • Wounded … that we might be healed (2 Corinthians 5:21).
  • Sin with our sinfulness … that we may be made righteous with HIS righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21).
  • Died our death … that we might receive HIS life (Hebrews 2:9).
  • Made a curse that we might enter into the blessing (Galatians 3:13).
  • Endured our poverty … that we might share HIS abundance (2 Corinthians 8:9).
  • Bore our shame … that we might share HIS glory (Hebrews 12:2).
  • Endured our rejection … that we might have HIS acceptance with the FATHER (Ephesians 1:5-6).
  • Cut off by death … that we might joined to GOD eternally (Isaiah 53:8b; 1 Corinthians 6:17).
  • Old man put to death in HIM … so the new man can come alive in us (Colossians 3:9-10)

Biblical Lust

Not necessarily one verse today, just some examples of the negative impact of lust in the Bible.

I was recently reading about Solomon, but David, Sampson, and Potiphar’s wife all lusted after other people and there were consequences suffered because of it.

I say that, to say this, be careful out there. Don’t talk too long, don’t stare too long, don’t be in a position where something bad could happen.

I have a former player who is a pastor in Georgia now, but he was a youth minister in Arkansas before that. When he was a player, he knew that one of the volleyball players liked him. After a game he was shooting FTs when I left. When I asked him why, he just said that he didn’t want to be tempted. If we were having a conversation and young ladies were around, he would always face away from them to keep himself safe.

Let’s keep ourselves safe out there.

Make it a great day in the trenches. Be exceptional at being you.

Remembering and Celebrating Juneteenth

Today I am thankful that my employer recognizes Juneteenth as a Federal Holiday. Juneteenth is an important holiday that deserves recognition, understanding and celebrating. Below is a good read about this special day in history so I encourage you to check it and and give thanks to God for his mercy and faithfulness. He is our hope.

I have also included the link to the Smithsonian website for even more historical information on this holiday.
