The Manly Message

We are a group of men exploring the reality of biblical manhood in our everyday lives ~ M.I.T.T.

Month

August 2021

New School

Good morning men. Today our son starts his first day of preschool. It’s going to be an interesting day to say the least. He and mom and dad all are going to need some prayers. Thankfully he is going to a wonderful preschool. Have a blessed day men!

Waiting on the Lord

August has been a crazy but very blessed month for me and my family.

1) Getting to see all of my family (2 brothers and 1 sister who live in different parts of the country) for the first time since my Dad passed away over 2 years ago.

2) Getting Paige off to college and helping her through a very challenging situation right off the bat.

3) Finishing home study and new hire training for my new and Lord willing, last pharma company until I retire

4) Getting kids ready to start school (growing up too fast)

5) Which brings me to my baby girl Lily who we just celebrated turning 13. No more little ones in our house, just all teen agers and young adults.

And with that August is almost done. Wow. So it was good to hear this passage again this Sunday at church. Thanks be to God he is the everlasting God, the Creator, He never tires or grows weary. May this passage be a blessing to you.

Isaiah 40:28-31 (ESV)

28Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable.
29He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might he increases strength.
30Even youths shall faint and be weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted;
31but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.

To Him who has freed me and In whom I stand, Thank you Jesus!

Inspiration From a Horse

2 Corinthians 3:17
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

I’m late to the punch today; pastors, I hope you were incredible.

I had a different idea for today’s message, but this morning’s activities changed my mind. We weaned horse babies this morning.

They were raised by their mothers, but this was always going to happen where they are now independent of them and they have to move on with life on their own, but with the nurturing of their mothers.

That’s kind of what we do every day. We make choices and we either use our freedoms for the positive or the negative. Be an example, use them for the positive.

Make it a great week in the trenches. Be exceptional at being you.

Yancey

Keep On Keeping On

Galatians 6:9
9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

It seems as though a large percentage of people that I have talked to lately are tired. They haven’t felt rested for a long time.

I doubt that the feeling of tired (and all of the various meanings associated with that word) is just relegated to the people I talk to.

If you’re reading this and you feel tired, if you’re not sure what’s going on in the world and you feel uncertain, keep on moving forward. Keep doing good, no matter what.

If you notice others falling in their spiritual life and you see how much easier that looks, use your faith to build the strength you need keep up the good fight. Do not become weary of doing good, stay the course.

I hope this scripture encourages you today.

Make it a great day in the trenches. Be exceptional at being you.

Yancey

Family Friday 8/27: Wisdom

Good morning, men!

I am going to piggy back off of what Dustin wrote yesterday. I have been reading through Ecclesiastes recently and there are some pretty apparent themes in chapters 1-5.

1. We can’t avoid death and our lives are short.

2. Spending all of our time here chasing status and money is pointless and foolish.

3. The hard stuff in life has purpose and can lead you to wisdom in the long haul.

To go off what Dustin said yesterday…the Word clearly lays out that we will suffer and life is short. If we spend our time running from the hard stuff and chasing things that are temporary, we will waste our time here.

Again, ignorance isn’t an excuse. It’s right there in front of us. It is our job as the leaders of our families to make sure that this truth is passed along to our wives, sons, and daughters amidst a time where a very “feel good”/ “do you” gospel is penetrating society.

Have a blessed day, men!

Lack Of Knowledge

Hosea 4:6 ESV — My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge,
I reject you from being a priest to me.
And since you have forgotten the law of your God,
I also will forget your children.

Before you read this anf think, oh great, here comes Dustin trying to scare God into us, let me tell you; I understand its the old testament, I understand its a different generation of people. But does verse 2 not look eerily familiar to our world today?

Hosea 4:2 ESV — there is swearing, lying, murder, stealing, and committing adultery;
they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed.

Men, lack of knowledge and ignorance are not an excuse. The Bible is very clear about this. We actually have a choice to make everyday to surrender our lives to the Savior. Along with that comes asking for conviction, repentance, forgiving others, and living our lives in a way acceptable to the Lord. Please, understand that Jesus’ sacrifice covered over all of it!

If there us anything particular in your life you would like to talk about or request someone pray with you about, please reach out. We all have choices to make, if younneed support at all in making the right one we are here for you!

with love, dlp

Hope

Romans 8:24 “Now in this hope we were saved, but hope that is seen is not hope, because who hopes for what he sees?”

Good morning men. This is a great verse and a pretty blunt one. It really is at the core of our faith for we haven’t physically seen Christ but we believe in him by faith. Because he have faith, he gives us hope. Hope for a better life while we are here and the hope and promise of a better eternity in heaven.

Have a blessed day men!

Keep the Faith

Hebrews 11:1-3

English Standard Version: 1Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2For by it the people of old received their commendation. 3By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.

Amplified Bible: Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses].

Think about this verse and let it soak in. What is faith?

  • Faith is the assurance/confirmation/certainty
  • Of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed)
    • By God’s righteous, faithful, true & loving character
    • His Word (truth and promises that He always keeps)
    • the word who became flesh, his son Jesus Christ (fully God, fully man) who led a perfect, obedient life of faithfulness to God. He was without sin.
    • Jesus Christ, God the son, who laid down his rights in order to live as a man, obey God the Father to the point of laying his life down to provide the perfect sacrifice that God required as payment in full for all our sins.
    • Jesus Christ died and rose again to restore our broken relationship with the Father. He conquered sin and death through his death and resurrection and provided us the opportunity for redemption and eternal life through a restored relationship with the Father through Him. We are redeemed by His blood and we our made new as His beloved adopted children. (Eph 1)
    • We are given the Holy Spirit to remind us of the Father and everything Jesus taught us. He is our counselor and seal of our guaranteed inheritance of eternal life (John 14, John 16, Eph 1)
    • ETERNAL LIFE!!! NOW ON EARTH, AS WE EXPERIENCE CHRIST THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT LIVING AND WORKING IN US, AND FOREVER WHEN WE ARE IN HEAVEN JOYOUSLY WORSHIPPING AND CELEBRATING HIS RULE AS THE KING OF KINGS AND LORD of LORDS.
  • And the conviction/evidence of things not seen (Romans 1:20, John 3, Revelation 21-22)
  • The rest of Hebrews 11 is known as the Hall of Faith – men in the OT who were broken and flawed, yet lived by faith in what God had promised even though they did not get to see the fulfillment of it during their life.
  • The fulfillment came in Jesus Christ in (Luke 24:44) Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”
  • In light of all this we now focus our faith in Christ as in Romans 12:1-3: 1Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. 3Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.
  • KEEP THE FAITH MEN!

Keep on Believing

He put that hunger in your heart
He put that fire in your soul
His love is the reason
To keep on believing
When you feel like giving up
When you feel like giving in
His love is the reason
To keep on believing

Pastors, you’ll still have people who start school this week. You’ll have some people who are still adjusting their schedules and are a little tired from school starting last week. You’ll have people who need your message today for other reasons. Be ready to be great.

Today’s message is based on the chorus from the song Reason by Unspoken.

What’s going on in your life that you feel is unfinished? What’s something that you’re passionate about that is eluding you? What’s something that feels incredibly important to you that hasn’t happened?

It is my wish that this song gives all of us hope and that those hopes and hungers come to fruition. The song clearly says that those hungers and desires are put in our hearts by Him. No matter where you’re at … KEEP HOPING … KEEP BELIEVING! We all have to continue to have that faith.

Let’s make it a point to pray for each other on the message to keep our faith strong.

Make it a great week in the trenches. Be exceptional at being you.

Love,

Yancey
